Hands Grabs Oscar Nom !

11 Feb 2003
The Hands that Built America has been nominated for an Oscar.

In the nominations for the 75th Anniversary Academy Awards, announced in Los Angeles this morning, 'Hands' was nominated in the Best Music (Original Song) Category. It faces tough opposition from "I Move On" from Chicago, "Lose Yourself" from 8 Mile, "Burn It Blue" from Frida and "Father and Daughter" from The Wild Thornberrys.

Reflecting on the nomination, Bono recalled what it was like working with director Martin Scorsese on the soundtrack to his Gangs of New York.

'It's exacting working with Marty,' he said. 'He didn't want Pop or Rock just stuck on the end of the movie. He wanted the song to come out of the story and the characters... oh yeah, and it had to begin in 1861 and end in 2002!"

Last month 'The Hands That Built America' triumphed at The Golden Globe awards winning best original song in a motion picture.
